this place used to (still does?) pride itself on having better comments than YouTube.
Well, that might be true, but the margin is narrowing rather than widening. Some threads are already on College Humour level. Humorous misogyny is not far from racist gibberish really.
What particularly worries me is the huge amount of keyboard warriors who are prepared to violently verbally assault women, and the huge amount of people who upvote their comments to the top of the page.
Perhaps this is because of / the reason behind the lack of women here, and who can blame them.
I promote parties, and I have a rule: Make a party for girls, then boys will come too, and everyone will dance together and have a good time. Make the toilets nice, the cloakroom fast, the bar staff polite, the lighting soft.
Or, make a party for boys, and someone will smash up the toilets at 2am out of sexual frustration.

I promoted this with the hopes that people would take a hint to stop using abusive language, even about complete strangers like Liz Trotta on FOX News. I didn't want it to turn into a chance for more name-calling. I also don't think that's what gwiz had in mind when he posted this.
Nonetheless, you took the opportunity to bash a few of our fellow sifters, and because no one here is beholden to my unexpressed wishes, I can't see why you in particular would feel compelled to act within my desired constraints. All the same, I felt it was only appropriate to remind you of one of your recent transgressions, thus placing you squarely among the ranks of those you have accused. And I belong in those ranks too. I've not used abusive verbiage recently, but I have done it before. The great majority of the time I try to play nice and crack a few jokes when I'm logged in, but I've also been a bad boy here and there throughout my history at the Sift. That's why I didn't cast any stones; because on a bad day that might have been me saying something like those guys did.
