I still can't figure out either a developer or distributor motive for the move to remove dedicated servers/mods.
They're not saving money, the features are clearly already in there since they were unlocked with a hack. It's not like it makes sense to set a precedent for future games either, may as well start it with a game where you don't even consider developing mod/dedicated server support.
It's not like this somehow enables them to charge for DLC whereas otherwise they couldn't. They easily could have done so anyway, because even PC gamers would likely pay for well made content no matter how discontent they are with the decision to charge. It's not like mod support somehow changes this dramatically.
The idea that IW want to restrict balancing and various adjustments that competitive mod makers made is plausible but still comes off as ridiculous considering they have never really made an effort to be competitive friendly and must surely know that people playing competitevely will never settle for the like of AI controlled choppers and air strikes in their game.
I walked by there last week and it perked my interest.
But then I remembered that Apple is a soulless company that doesn't give a dime to charity, feigns a sophisticated and suave culture of pretentiousness, and revels in general technological ignorance to satiate its mass market audience.
The dollar is only really down to levels it was pre-financial crisis. Taking your reference point at the height of the global financial crisis is unfair because everyone was buying up US treasury bonds and over inflating the currency.
The fact that countries are considering moving away from the US dollar as the reserve currency, the currency they trade in, and which they keep as foreign reserves is a good thing in the long term. This has kept the US dollar overvalued for decades, and has contributed significantly to the unsustainable consumption and housing binge, and was obvious a major catalyst for the global financial crisis. A rebalancing would put the onus further on factors of GDP such as investment as a contributor to economic growth.
To say that the economy is in recovery is not disingenuous. They're simply using leading indicators such as stock price or inventory levels, which are generally good predictors of economic recovery and in this case a pending fall in unemployment. The scale of that is anyone's guess though, as is how much of the economy was spurned by returning business confidence in the private sector rather that purely government stimulus and specific programs such as first home buyer's grants and cash for clunkers.
This happens so often I have the routine memorised.
Some distributor or developer decides the best way to give their game publicity and to boost its all important opening earnings is to include a gratuitously provocative, sensationalist and utterly unnecessary segment. Somebody acquires the game early, posts the footage on youtube and it reaches critical mass.
The media is drawn to this like a moth to flame in anticipation of easy ratings. They sensationalise it, take it out of content and bring in some 'experts' who have never actually played it or any other video games for that matter but are stalwart advocates against violence in videogames.
They pontificate about how because games are interactive and so realistic, they compel people to commit violence mentioning notable mass killings but being unable to provide any peer reviewed evidence for a significant link between the two.
Uproar ensues, game sells better than it would have otherwise. Rinse, repeat.
