Bill Nye on Fox: "There's A Lot More Science Behind" the Idea Of Global Warming Creating Extreme Weather "Than Saying It's Not".

"The route you've taken has confused some of the viewers"... He is of course referring to the route where the person speaking does so without shouting or resorting to hyperbole, the route to which most FOX viewers are accustomed.

This is why I have so much respect for Bill Nye. It would be so terribly frustrating to make a valid point with the host essentially shouting "make your point faster!" that I'd probably just storm off the set. Kudos, Bill!

Bill should not have even entertained the question on Gore's racism comments. I get Gore's point but it was a really bad analogy and Bill allows himself to be taken off topic for roughly half the video because of it.

The point about global warming is that all the available evidence shows that:
1. It is happening
2. It is man-made.

Why is that a problem? well, because we dont know what the consequences could be, we dont know how to stop the rising temperature or if theres a limit or if or when we can reverse the trend.

All of the above could happen, or it might not, some of it may not be due to GW and some of it may be. The fact is that we are messing with earths ecosystem, which is the very reason we are here in the first place. We grew up and evolved as a species on this planet, under these conditions, how will a rapid(geologically rapid 100-200 years) change in climate affect us as a species? how will it affect millions of other species? How will it affect weather? viruses? diseases? deserts? forests?

We don't know

Thats the point. some of the above are possible consequences of global warming*.

*or some denialist pulled it out of their ass and put it on the web so that other denialists could impress us all with their extensive lists.

It's my sense that the connection between racism and climate change is as follows: The minority groups that are most at risk of racism are also the likely victims of climate change if people, individually and collectively, choose to do little or nothing about it -- due to having less access to institutional resources or to properties that will go unaffected by climate change.
Such reasoning comes from the notion that when the first world fails to act on climate change issues, it's the third world that tends to suffer the gravest consequences.

The first clue that you've been lied to is the fact that those whom you take your intellectual cues from insist on 'debate' instead of research. Could a skillful debater convince you that the concept of gravity is a lie? Or that the Earth is flat and orbited by the sun? In science, research is how things are debated. Doesn't it give you any pause that those whom you've put your trust in want to keep this scientific 'debate' outside of the realm of science?

One of your biggest problems is that you seem to believe that you know what you are talking about; that the random hodge-podge of political buzzwords and slogans you've been trained to recite are a legitimate and coherent point of view. Not only do you believe you know what you are talking about, but you also believe you've arrived at these conclusions through a process of thought and reason, rather than just mindlessly lapping up propaganda you've been fed by politicians, corporate think tanks and industrial PR firms.

There is no legitimacy to your arguments on this subject. You are completely, provably ignorant when it comes to climate science. It's a farce that we are even having this conversation. Not all points of view are equally valid. In the debate between 2+2=4 and 2+2=5, only one side is correct. You are squarely in the wrong. I don't say this to hurt your feelings, but rather as a service to enlighten you. Rather than getting angry at me for being honest, why not instead turn your anger upon those who have armored you in ignorance and sent you off to battle ill equipped, or better yet, why not turn your anger inward for your own gullibility and lack of independent thought.

Individual freedom starts in the mind.

The only time I've ever invoked it was for a series of videos which tried to pass off a skewed and fantastic (not in the good sense) version of history as history in a documentary format. When it's no longer "I/we believe this/that" but instead becomes "historically, this/that" with said "this/that" being a bunch of humbug, then I think it deserves the lies channel (as do all those crazy 9/11 truther videos, but I digress).

I think the point is if you have an opinion about a topic, even if it's the prevailing opinion, a video centering around that topic shouldn't be marked lies unless it fits with the channel's description:

"Any videos stating, showing or blowing the whistle on blatant falsehoods are welcome here. They can be anyone, politicians, television personalities, celebrities, etc." (Emphasis mine)

I never cared one bit who put what video into lies until QM was hobbled over it. Now it's a discussion I wish we weren't having, to be honest. Also here are videos in both religion and lies. I'm sure some are marked lies because of popular opinion rather than fact.

As always - the Warmies love to muddle terminilogy in order to misdirect.

There is a vast world of difference between what a typical Warmie is talking about when they say, "climate change" and what a scientist is talking about. However, in the news media and popular culture, the Warmies routinely equate both of them together in order to lend themselves false credibility.

"Climate change" as a generic term simply means the climate is changing. This is scientifically provable - however it is so patently obvious (and has been for millenium) that it does not require the rigor of the scientific method to verify. No one is arguing against the reality that Earth's climate has cycles, changes, alters, or otherwise permutates over long periods of time (or even short periods locally).

However, when Warmies talk about "Climate change" they do not mean this. They pack so many other things into two words that it becomes almost impossible to pin it down. But generally speaking when a Warmie says climate change they mean something along these lines...

"Human C02 emissions are the primary agent of all climate changes in the past 200 years, and all scientists in all fields are in 100% agreement that only human C02 is responsible and these scientists are also in 100% agreement that the only solution is to enact massive government taxation schemes in order to reduce C02 emissions to 1820 levels, or the Earth will experience such catastrophic world-wide destruction that all humanity will be wiped out."

That's quite a difference in meaning. It is perfectly reasonable to say that scientists, economists, and regular folks everywhere can rationally debate the veracity and truth of the latter definition, while accepting the former.

And yet the Warmies cannot allow a rational line of discussion and debate, and so they instead turn to their time-practiced tactic of poisoning the well, insults, ad hominems, and other obfuscations of the truth in order to desperately lend their terminally unsupportable position enough credence to allow the desperate and brain-washed to continue to cling to it in the face of real evidence.

Day after day we hear repeated news of the facts behind the so-called 'proof' that the Warmies have falsified for years. East anglia, the polar bear liar, the hockey stick chart, the IPCC panels - they have all been discredited and proven to have buried evidence, censored opposing research, cooked their data, falsified evidence, and otherwise destroyed the entire credibility of the whole Warmie position. Their 'science' (all oriented around C02 being the primary agent of climate change) is bunk.

I've got an entire folder in my Hotmail with article after article after article proving that the claim that "human C02 = climate change" is politically motivated bologna. Here are some from just this WEEK...

It is 100% hogwash. The climate change INDUSTRY (and it is an over 200 billion dollar industry) is panicing because people no longer buy the "Human C02 = poison" bullcrap. They are losing the debate. Governments are abandoning the green movement. And the Warmies are panicking. So they are putting out articles so insane, so ridiculous that even a child can tell they are stupid morons. Aliens are going to blow up earth over C02 emissions? Climate change is causing mental illness? What utter stupidity.

The evidence - the REAL evidence - is that human C02 is such a minor factor that it does not warrent serious attention. Do we all want to clean up messes? Sure - but the real mess-makers are not in the US or Europe. They're in South America, China, and Africa. That's where the focus should be. But the Warmie movement is nakedly political, so their primary goals have nothing to do with actual pollution. Instead they obsess over making C02 something they can 'regulate', and therefore tax and earn revenues from. It's pathetic, and yet so many people accept it because of faulty, flawed, sloppy so-called 'research', and the fact that they really WANT to believe it for some reason. Morons.

A gaggle of marxist enviro-statists decide the way to undermine capitalism is to claim:

a) they know the precise temperature that the earth should be for the next 100 years

and

b) that they can actually achieve this precise temperature via taxes and regulation.

As hubristic and delusional as a guy at the beach yelling, "STAND BACK everyone! I'm PISSING in the OCEAN!"

capitalism is doing a dandy job undermining itself atm... it needs no help, other than what the banks/politicians (primarily Republicans, but also Democrats) are already contributing

it is quite simple to look back at history (which extends beyond 6000 yrs), and by looking at historical trends to extrapolate what future trends should be, to quite accurate degree

no one is saying taxes and regulation DIRECTLY affect the temperature... and if you believe that the left actually think that, you need to do a little introspection... however, again looking at history you can see that taxes/regulation are able to focus/define/direct economy and industry... its exactly what brought the US out of depression for example... so if your goal is to reduce environmental impact of industries that are leading sources of pollution, or to spur innovation/creativity in new, less harmful technology... taxes/regulation is how you do it

if you leave it up to the private sector alone, what motivation do they have to not do business as usual? the current US/World economy is less driven by innovation as it is driven by profit... someone comes up with a good idea? buy them out or leverage them out of the market if it competes with your product (or better yet buy their product, but sit on it... why bother going through the expense of changing systems)... the US has been brainwashed into thinking Capitalism is wringing every last drop of blood out of a stone, rather than creating new markets/fields

there has been alternative energy source vehicle technology for DECADES, yet they are just trickling into the market now... and its not because people haven't asked for it, its because profit is shortsighted and definitely not philanthropic... its because people stopped buying American gas guzzling penis extensions and started looking at the more economical foreign offering... industry couldn't predict that a shrinking middle class and rising gas prices would change the market... but change was there, so they might as well throw in that environmental issue people have been worried about for the past 50yrs

and when someone starts touting capitalism and poo pooing marxism, socialism, and the like... that's when I know I've been introduced to an idiot... you do realize your quality of life, your standard of living, services you consider essential, etc come from those ideals AS WELL AS Capitalism...

right?

and one or the other, on their own, taken to the Nth degree, are just as horrific as the other

an idiot who hasn't thought for themselves is QUITE ready to start cheering for one side or the other

I like the fact that the news anchor won't even admit that the world is getting warmer. Like it is some sort of trap. Does he not hear about the glaciers melting in Greenland or paths in the northern ice cap being accessible for one of the first times ever in recorded history? You can stomp your feet all you want about how climate models are wrong/complicated or that it is man made or due to solar regulations. However, I don't think you can deny the world is getting warmer, it's called a thermometer and a pencil and paper for note taking.

The reason taxation and regulation is occuring is because almost everyone in government is a twat. It's the same reason why they raise the price of alcohol and tobacco to try and cut down on alcohol and tobacco use. Same reason why they say using cannabis funds criminals, make it illegal and push it squarely into the realm of the criminal. And finally the same reason why they tell us taxes will solve climate change.... MAXIMUM PROFIT.

Mark my words; the real actual science on climate change is undeniable, the policies stemming from climate change are according to the arsehole politicians' whims.

You are an absolute fool for one reason and one reason only; you attack climate change science and not the politicians using it to their own gain. You're blind man, totally blind. I hope one day you realise that it's the lies that are wrong, not the fucking science. Wake up.

It's a shame cos in a way you're dead right, the politicians are coming up with pointless regulation and pointless taxes to get more money from everyone, but it's THEY who are wrong and not the fucking science. Stop attacking science, it's like attacking rationality - science is something everyone can and should agree with. Science is perhaps the ONLY THING that we can and should all agree with because science is blind to religion, status, political view, skin colour; everything. It just tells you the honest facts. This is undeniable - anything else IS NOT science.

You're listening to the wrong fucking people QM, you're not listening to scientists you're listening to government. Your bullshit radar needs fixing, that's all; you can't distinguish between people who know and people who merely tell you convincingly that they know.
