... not fast enough, it-would-seem.

I had a friend who went to juvenal for reflexively punching a cop that pulled just this kinda thing. The cop's story was that he was trying to commandeer my friend's skateboard, and had to grab him to do so. My friend's story was, 'yeah, the asshole wanted to take my NEW skateboard! I started taking off, he tried to grab me by the neck, and I punched him!'

As usual, i hate this kind of stuff. I just imagine if it was me. Or if i was holding the camera.

I'd stand my ground "I'm allowed to do this, this is legal, why are you attacking me? Why are you smashing my camera on the ground thereby destroying any evidence? Why are you kicking me in the testicles until they have the consistancy of jelly?"

It's all scary scary stuff. What has our world come to when people like this get into a position of power and automatic moral superiority?

Where was the crime?

I'm not anti-cop and I know full well there are a lot of assholes out there.

But, from the perspective of this video, the cop was way out of line.

My biggest beef against the cops is that they act like it is a crime to stand witness.

It is within your constitutional power to defend yourself at all cost of life when your liberty is threatened by power of force.

This was one of those times, he used hard force to take down that guy when the situation did not need hard force, the force used was one step away from lethal force.

I'm disgusted by Peace Officers these days, they think that they can arrest any one for any thing, the only problem is that one day some one will call them on it, and we know where that leads. Live by force, die by force, live by the gun die by the gun, etc etc.

We don't know that South... but here is the thing... if he had done anything to deserve that... why wasn't it already done?....

The officers tone also is a problem... "get the fuck out of here or your next"?

Safe to say any sort of professionalism is out the window and this guy is clearly being motivated by anger and emotion. The man appears to also be following intstructions... at the time he is assaulted... and lets be frank... he is assaulted...

The police in this situation then move to have the camera silinced... It seems clear that they realize their could be issues later one.

It is not against the law to record an arrest on public property, and that is protected by the 1st amendment.

He did not give the cops enough crap to warrant hard physical force. So your argument is invalid. Invalid because we would have seen the officers already arrest the man had he been giving the cops crap in the first place.

This foolish Idea that we didn't see enough to understand, we did see enough to understand the situation. Which was, people recording the arrest, the cop doesn't like it, and we have conduct unbecoming, not to mention false arrest, false imprisonment, violation of rights, and aggravated assault. I would even press up to attempted murder(Just to see what I can advocate for my client).

This videos establishes guilt in the civil court as preponderance of evidence, there is no question in that. However it would go to criminal court, I would say that the gentleman that was assaulted has got a great case against the officers involved.

Now there is another situation that we have to account for in this. That the person arrested did want to be arrested, and beaten. Meaning that they wanted to catch it on tape in order to seek a case against the officer.

Well, the officer is still wrong, however even though the situation may have been engineered by the man arrested, he did not break any law. The officer gave no lawful order, in that the man was on public property, and was leaving however slowly. A lawful order cannot violate the 1st amendment, therefore the officers order was not lawful.

Yeah.. honestly, if the guy deserved being tossed down in a choke hold like that (helluva move by the way, especially to a guy with his hands in his pockets) it should have been done at the time of the offense, not when he was walking away.

I don't think you're going to find too many people defend the cop in this situation, regardless of your opinions of law enforcement in general.

I predict we'll be seeing news about this guy being fired or investigated at the very least in short order.

There is no way this officer hasn't had issues with other people in the past if this is his first reaction to even the mildest of opposition.

Correction by the way... he was holding a girl's hand.. not hands-in-pockets as I suggested... somehow that seems an even more inappropriate use of force now.

Yeah, there's no way of knowing what happened before the video started (at least not at this time) but I don't think it matters much. The officer gave the man an order, all be it in an unprofessional and rude manner. The person respond to the order and began leaving as instructed, and then was choked and taken to the ground. If that is how the officer reacts when people follow his directives, I'd be terrified to see how he reacts when people don't comply.

Don't be sorry. We don't need to know the whole story. The only time force of this scale is justified is when there is an immediate threat to the safety of another person or an officer. If the kid had done something before that warranted it, he wasn't doing when he got choked.

I predict that there will be NO wiggle room for him or his department on this one.

And seriously - if you don't get that BillO's comments are satire, you need to STFU and lurk more.

Being retarded in the style of a staunch conservative does not equal satire. I've been watching BillO for a while, and the satire aspect is getting harder and harder to see. These days it's just plain trolling.

Stephen Colbert is satire. There's a huge difference.

you know society is f*cked when videos like this draw even the slightest question. how about if the cop drew his weapon and shot the girlfriend in the face and started killing small children and babies and it was covered by 10 camera angles for an hour before and after it happened?

how much evidence do we need to confirm the f*cking sky is blue?

I like Bill-O's comments. Whether or not serious, responses to "the character" say more about those that criticize...

NordichReiter gave a good overall explanation, but I agree with southblvd:

This video shows one part of the entire situation.

No one has any idea what's really going on in this video. It may seem the cop is out of line--and he may very well be--but remember, as an officer of the law and professional, his conduct can be redressed.

I don't enjoy being pulled over any more than anyone else, but considering cops deal day and night with society's f--kups, almost all of them are remarkably well-adjusted. Blanket condemnation of all police resulting from these videos is more unfair than the questionable treatment of this suspect.

I completely agree that we don't know the full situation. All we see is a cop give a lawful order to someone pulling some serious guerilla psychological warfare by following that order and gets taking down for it.

Completely justified since the kid knew it was opposite day.

I once held a position of power very similar to a police officer. I was faced with a constant miasma of shitty people who had no problem calling me every word and offending sentence structure known to man, yet I never once even uttered a single curse word, never demeaned one of these individuals, and held a professional attitude almost the entire time.

You know why? Because we were monitored 24/7. If I fucked around, I lost my job. Those times that I did not act professionally? I was written up and I NEVER acted as such again.

Police should have some type of recorder on them at all times. I know they have the dash cam, but they need to be watched. I'll probably get some shit for saying that, but that's my belief based on my time with the ability to enforce law.

And, no, I won't tell you what that job is. The point is, cops have the ability to fuck your world and do it without question. It doesn't matter if 100% of them were good all of the times, simply having this power demands them to be watched over.

Not gonna happen for the reason that for every 8 hours of a cop is on shift, you'd need someone to sit and watch 8 hours of a cop's day. It's a lot easier to just report any abuse by the police, so that the video tapes can be reviewed later.
