Photojournalist Survives Indonesian Air Crash, Rolls Camera

Seven cameraman films air crash chaos

A Seven Network cameraman who survived the crash of the Garuda flight in Indonesia called a colleague as the airliner caught fire and passengers tried desperately to escape the inferno.

Indonesian cameramen Wayan Sukarda and Ardi Rahman were travelling from Jakarta to cover Foreign Minister Alexander Downer's visit for Seven when the plane caught fire on landing at Yogyakarta airport.

"He phoned up as it was crashing," Seven cameraman Danney Sim said of Sukarda. "He was screaming 'The plane's crashing'.
