In 2022 the film "Fire Of Love" - a doumentary about Volcano hunters Katia and Maurice Krafft - was released to critical acclaim.

However, in the same year Werner Herzog released "The Fire Within" - his own film about the Kraffts, also using much of their own footage.

This video is in praise of Herzog's treatment, emphasising the art over the science.

I recall the Kraffts being childhood heroes for fearlessly getting so intimate with erupting volcanoes and bringing their beautiful power to light in the 70s and 80s.
Herzog is the perfect choice for their story, even if he embellishes.

Really enjoyed watching Fire of Love a few months ago. Will give the Herzog homage to the Kraffts a watch next weekend.

Exactly. I'd just shelve a docufilm project as soon as I know Herzog's on the same topic, in the same year no less!

Granted, Fire of Love ain't bad at all. But Herzog just elevated the whole thing!

Is any comparison to Herzog fair?
